NDSL price dropped from 130 USD to 100 in US
Nintendo confirmed that it’s to cut the price of its handheld console DS lite down a bit, from the previous 130 USD to 100.
Well this is good news for US players, at least it sounds like a good news. Carte DS console is Nintendo’s major game console following DS console. I can see many users still play DS and DS lite ever after the launch of DSi.
DS lite does give us good experience and fun, and compared to PSP, its size is more suitable for our hand, and it has many more games, that’s why Nintendo rocked and took the first spot in portable game console market.
Nintendo saw a major drop in sales and earnings. Although Nintendo has sold around 50 million unites of game consoles in US (include DS, DSL,
cartuchos DSi
, DSi LL and 3DS), but it fell behind Sony and Microsoft in family game consoles. Nintendo’s Wii, the world’s first motion controlled Game System, used to the most popular game system, but later Sony and Microsoft released their own motion game system and overtook Wii as the most welcomed game consoles.
Mobile games also partly cause the drop of sales. Ever since Apple released iPhone, mobile games began to be popular among cell phone users, games like angry birds are available among a wide range of platforms like iOS, Android, Windows Phone 7 and Symbian. This could attract users from game consoles to cell phones. This is huge challenge that Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft has to face.
In the meantime, flash card sales also further reduce Nintendo’s profits. Cards like R4 SDHC, Acekard, M3 card and Super
carte DS
are widely used among Nintendo users.
In order to inspire more people to buy its game consoles, Nintendo released the world’s first 3D portable gaming system which does not need special glasses in the hope of increasing sales volume.
However Nintendo admitted that its sales does not meet the goals. Anyway Nintendo is said to release Wii 2 in June at E3, hope this could help Nintendo recover.
